The 2012 North East Heritage Skills Festival was held at Tynemouth Station from 22nd to 24th June. The venue was excellent, with exhibitors offering a varied range of hands on crafts and activities including traditional walling, stone carving and green woodworking to a steady stream of participants, enhanced by interest from visitors to the adjacent Saturday and Sunday markets. Peter, John, Sonia, Ian, Martina and Tracy were kept busy throughout the weekend as the Countryside Consultants’ stand included an architectural quiz and a selection of traditional implements and artefacts to identify. We were also delighted to showcase our latest heritage projects – repairs to the West Bog section of Hadrian’s Wall, Bolts Law Former Standing Engine and a large walled kitchen garden recently commissioned in Cumbria. As usual it was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with other professionals and contractors, all under the recently, magnificently restored glass roof of the station. Thanks to all the staff of the North East Civic Trust Heritage Skills Initiative for holding a very successful and enjoyable event.
