We are delighted to announce that we have recently appointed Maria Carballeira. Maria is from Galicia, Spain, where she graduated as architect in 2007 and obtained a Masters in Urban Renewal and Rehabilitation in 2010. Her professional experience began through an internship in an architectural practice in 2005, and developed afterwards working in a wide range of projects, from domestic to educational and industrial.
Her interest in sustainable design approach to tackle both new build and vernacular architecture, led her to resume her training. She moved to the UK in 2013, where she gained an MSc in Sustainable Buildings and Environments with merit in 2014 (Newcastle University). Her dissertation encompasses human-centred and sustainable design approaches to the study of indoor daylight performance in day care facilities for elderly people with Alzheimers and other dementias.
Among other interests, Maria has been involved with an Audiovisual collaboration focused on environmental awareness ‘New Delhi Lasagna’. This film was awarded first prize in the Festival of Filming for change (Santiago de Compostela, Spain 2013) and screened at the 20th Environmental International Film Festival of Barcelona (Spain, 2013), at the 2nd Environmental International Film Festival of Buenos Aires (Argentina, 2014) and at the Primeira Janela - Festival De Cinema Infanto Juvenil De Porto Alegre (Brazil, 2014).
